On this episode of life happens, I present to you this... A photograph that I took over 25 years ago of a young man who grew up to be a phenomenal football player. The word Phenomeno Doesn't really explain how good he was. I wish I had video footage to show you. One day I went to one of his championship games with the Pal football league. My boy and Detroit rapper Big Herk was there To watch his son play on the opposing team. I told him I was there to see my little brother play. I then pointed him out and big Herk proceeds to talk smack. Talking about how his team was gonna "get in that ass". LOL The game begins and my "little brother", as I affectionately called him begins to dazzle the entire Ford field, where the game was being played. Fans from the other team would jump out of their seats In reaction to his plays. At one point Big Herk turned around and looked at me in amazement and said "That's your brother!!?" I mean this boy was that good! Barry Sanders meets Michael Vick type of talent. Unfortunately he didn't do too well academically in high school . So his dad took him out of Groves Birmingham and moved him back to the neighborhood. Where he then attended Mumford. Not that mumford is all bad. I mean, I went there. However, the influence of "the hood" is strong. So now little brother is "trapped" in the hood and influence to smoke weed and hang out in the neighborhood. One day I found out who he was getting weed from and my ass decided to drive around the corner and check a 6 mile gang member who I considered at the time be an OG. That conversation didn't go too well. Fast forward and at some point "little brother" gets caught with a sawed off shotgun. WTF. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, go straight to jail. Needless to say that pretty much ended his football pursuits. I think I had bigger football dreams for him than he did. I just ran into him an hour ago, only a few feet from where this photo was taken. He said that he now has a son but hes dealing with a little baby mama drama.
